Google Public DNS is a Domain Name System (DNS) service offered to Internet users worldwide by Google.It functions as a recursive name server.Google Public DNS was announced on 3 December 2009, in an effort described as "making the web faster and more secure". As of 2018, it is the largest public DNS service in the world, handling over a trillion queries per day.
Google Wifi and Google Nest Wifi gives you three options: Automatic: This uses Google Public DNS or your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) DNS if certain conditions are met. Automatic is the default DNS selection, although the default may be different depending on how you obtained your device. ISP’s DNS: This uses your ISP’s DNS. I also use Ionos and all of my domains that I have on one server are not working with Google's public DNS. If they have been moved from a previous server to the affected one, then when pinged they resolve the IP address of the previous server. If they are new, they do not resolve at all. All sites were working yesterday without issue. But instead of using the DNS which your ISP assigned, why not use a popular DNS service like Google Public DNS or OpenDNS. You can configure DNS in your computer also and at router level also. If you’ve got a Wi-Fi router then you can configure that router to use OpenDNS or Google DNS. Upon further troubleshooting, I found that while most dns servers correctly see the mx records, google public dns does not seem to be. I use google dns on my local machine, and am unable to access any of the sites hosted on that server. Other users, using the DNS for their ISPS are able to access the site fine.
